What is WebSci19?

The field of Web Science was created to explore the science underlying the Web from a socio-technical perspective including its mathematical properties, engineering principles, and social impacts. WebSci19 brings together leading researchers from multiple disciplines, including computer science, sociology, economics, information science, anthropology, and psychology to study the people, technologies, applications, processes, and practices that shape and are shaped by the World Wide Web. WebSci19 builds bridges between industry, government, and academic disciplines to develop our knowledge of the world wide web – the largest socio-technical network in human history.

Why support WebSci19?

Web technology gives us unprecedented means to capture, analyze, and benefit from Big Data and Big Knowledge, such as personalized medicine or smarter travel. The Web also allows for unprecedented collaboration, including Open Science, Open Education, and Digital Democracy. The emergent Internet of Things and the application of AI and blockchain technologies promises much in terms of a smarter, more connected world. But, the future of the Web is by no means certain. Supporting WebSci19, and the research presented there, shows a strong commitment to the future of the web as a productive, inclusive socio-technical system.

Who will be at WebSci19?

WebSci19 will bring together approximately 150 researchers from around the globe working on cutting-edge issues in web science. Graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and faculty come together for 4 days to discuss, present, and learn about the latest advances in interdisciplinary web science.
